Today, I’m incredibly excited to share that we’ve raised a $15.5M Series A for Automat led by Felicis, with participation from Initialized, Khosla Ventures, and Y Combinator, with follow on from K5 Global and Input Capital. This brings our total capital raised to $19.25M.

At Automat, we’re building the simplest way to create AI agents that operate computers the way people do. From click-based automation (RPA), to intelligent document processing (IDP), our focus is on meeting enterprises where they are, and giving them a far more capable and modern alternative to legacy RPA tools like UiPath, Automation Anywhere, and Blue Prism.

Automat creates reliable AI-agents to automate manual business processes by allowing operators to simply show us the workflows they’d like to automate, making it easy  for a non-technical operator or engineer to scale automations across their organization.

Fully agentic solutions leave you tinkering with prompts, fiddling with deployment details, and can be slow and non-deterministic. With Automat, your workflows are fully managed and guaranteed by our forward deployed team and proprietary agentic infrastructure.

Automat's patented transformer-based demonstration-to-automation

When my co-founder Gautam and I left Google to start Automat, we could feel the shift happening in real time. Gautam was working on applying cutting-edge transformer models across experiments in Chrome and GCP, while I was building products at Google Hardware and later at Google X. It was at Google X that the two of us realized something important: robotics techniques for “text-to-action,” combined with rapid advances in VLMs and LLMs, could enable a new class of AI agents, ones capable of operating software the way people do, understanding the "why" of each action they take, and adapting to changing environments and workflows.

Automat uses transformer models to create adaptable reliable automations compared to legacy RPA

Automat changes this enterprise automation dynamic entirely. With simple subscription/usage-based pricing and a clean interface, both business users and engineers can build mission-critical automations by collaborating with our forward-deployed engineers. No certifications. No armies of developers. No fragile, low-code spaghetti.

The writing is on the wall for legacy RPA. Their pricing models make scaling painful and expensive. Their platforms are brittle, require large specialist teams, and demand constant maintenance. They’re stuck squarely in an innovator’s dilemma because offering a product as full-service and as flexible as what Automat does would cannibalize their existing business.

Announcing Early Access to the Automat Platform

Alongside our series A, I’m excited to launch early access to the Automat platform for commercial partners and customers.

Automat Platform

Here, businesses are able to:

  • Create Agentic workflows & Document Extractors
  • Manage their usage analytics and performance over time
  • Interact live with the Automat AI agent and our forward deployed engineers

Creating Agentic Workflows & Document Extractors

To create an automation, customers upload reference materials like screen recording videos or SOPs, and our system parses them to understand the task. Our agentic workflows combine: click-based UI agents, document extraction, and API-based integrations.

We use both video context and spoken explanations to help generate fully deployed automations, complete with an Agentic Operating Procedure (AOP) that defines the agent’s instruction set and production environment.

Monitor Usage Analytics & Agent Performance

AI agents require observability, just like employees. Our platform gives customers insight into what their agents are doing, how effectively the work is being completed, and where improvements can be made. Our agents blend deterministic and non-deterministic methods, executing quickly while self-healing when UI elements change.

It’s one thing to watch a Twitter demo of an AI agent ordering a cheeseburger, it’s another to run an automation 1,400 times a day in a high-stakes banking environment. We’re built for the latter.

Each automation includes a production API that gives customers fine-grained control and observability, enabling seamless integration with their products and services.

Collaborate Directly with AI-Agents & Automat Forward-Deployed Engineers

Customers work with our forward-deployed engineering team directly inside the platform or through channels they already use: Slack, Teams, and email. They can tag insights in analytics, interact with agents for ad-hoc requests, and escalate to their dedicated forward deployed engineer just as they would with an expert coworker.

Automat in Production

Automat has already begun replacing legacy RPA software across industries and is defining a new category: Fully Agentic, Managed Automations

Banking/Lending: We automate high-friction workflows for mortgage lenders like AmeriTrust, streamlining processes such as generating disclosures, classifying PDFs, and extracting appraisal data, while integrating status updates directly into their LOS, replacing manual document checks, file transfers, and signature collection.

Financial Services: Automat manages a KYC workflow for an international payment processor by processing documents with VLMs and routing them to an AI agent. This agent verifies and reconciles data with one of eight different government websites, each with unique login or bot detection systems, using cloud-hosted bots.

Insurance: For a multi-national insurance firm, we’re processing millions of claims documents like medical invoices, prescriptions, and receipts. This workflow and managed support alone saves them 7-figures in OpEx in terms of the operational time and engineering cost avoided by working with Automat.

Customer Highlight:

Vividly has turned to Automat as their dedicated AI-automation team.

Automat automates Vividly's 'dispute filing' workflows, helping it agentically file disputes across distributors' websites. Automat uses UI-Agents to validate inputs, access accounts, and manage communications and data validation.
